Starting next month, TikTok will ban most weight loss–related content. The app is set to specifically ban the advertisement of weight-loss products and will place limits on minors viewing or sharing content that highlights, explains, or supports weight management methods deemed “potentially harmful,” like the use of weight-loss medications. Most social media platforms have come under criticism for allowing the spread of weight-loss content without many restrictions, proliferating “content about disordered or dangerous eating.” But, while it aims to prevent the circulation of health misinformation, many creators who talk about weight loss in relation to “traditionally marginalized diseases” are concerned this will suppress their reach to a community they care about. The topic of Ozempic is especially controversial in these guidelines, as it exists to treat chronic conditions like type 2 diabetes, not just for rapid weight loss. (Business of Fashion)
