Gen Z says office jobs are better with a work bestie. A recent Glassdoor survey found that 63% of Gen Z employees have a best friend at work, with many respondents citing mental health benefits like support and stress relief from these friendships. Glassdoor’s chief economist believes these benefits do not shield from the tension that may ensue at work “after a friendship sours” though and argues that work friendships are not equivalent to outside friendships. According to CNBC, difficulty maintaining discretion between workplace friends and post-promotion awkwardness are potential issues Gen Z should avoid when navigating office friendships. But YPulse’s new Gen Z in Their Job Era trend report shows that the next gen of the work force highly values getting along with their coworkers, and the sense of professionalism that kept other gens at arms length is one Gen Z is changing.
