Gen Z doesn’t want to be promoted at work. Climbing the corporate ladder was a typical goal for many but it seems to have ended with Gen Z. To this gen, getting promoted and taking on management positions simply isn’t worth the money nor the stress. Some feel as though becoming a manager means they’re assigned to babysit and have less time to focus on their own careers as they spend the majority of their time worrying about others. Now that work / life -balance has become a top priority for this gen, employers need to help motivate new workers outside of money and promotions. YPulse’s Gen Z in Their Job Era data shows that having a job they’re passionate about is just as important to young adults as having good pay—so they don’t want to get promoted just to have less time to use their skills.
