Teens have a love-hate relationship with location sharing on their devices. Gen Z is pretty accustomed to sharing their location these days, especially on apps like Snapchat, Life360, and Apple’s Find My. They like to use location sharing services to check in on their friends to see who’s in the area or to find each other at concerts, but according to a Common Sense Media report on teen girls’ views on social media, “45% of the surveyed girls said that location sharing had a negative effect on them.” Gen Z are growing up different from any generation where they don’t have to wonder if their friends are hanging out without them, instead they can actually know. While many teens say location sharing can make them self-conscious about where they live and where they go and pose the fear of being stalked, “by far the biggest cause of anxiety, they say, is knowing when they’re missing out.” (WSJ)
