The U.K’s cost-of-living crisis is having an impact on young consumers’ mental health. According to the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, 66% of therapists say the cost-of-living crisis is causing their patients undue stress. But despite their declining mental health, many people are being forced to cancel their therapy sessions because they can no longer afford them: 60% of therapists say their clients are cutting back on sessions, and 47% say they’re quitting therapy altogether. YPulse’s WE Mental Health report shows that mental health is the top thing young Europeans say has been negatively impacted by the pandemic, and a new crisis certainly isn’t helping. Meanwhile, young Europeans are looking to brands to help, with 66% agreeing that brands have a responsibility to help end the mental health stigma and the same number saying they like it when brands make mental health a part of their marketing and messaging—which is likely even more true when professional mental health services are out of their reach.
