LGBTQ+ influencers are speaking out about Pride campaigns, offering advice to brands.

Jun 13 2022

LGBTQ+ influencers are speaking out about Pride campaigns, offering advice to brands. YPulse research shows brands that support LGBTQ+ communities need to go beyond Pride Month to reach Gen Z and has warned about the dangers of rainbow-washing. From bombarding followers with LGBTQ+ slogans, to brands only engaging with LGBTQ+ creators in June, influencers are finding it difficult to balance significant money-making opportunities and disappointing pride-washing antics. The month of June brings in a plethora of brand deals for LGBTQ+ influencers and more creators are being transparent about it. Cyrus Veyssi, a nonbinary comedy creator, says they can tell how serious a brand is about a Pride campaign based on the timing of the collab offer. For example, Dolce Vita reached out earlier this year in comparison to other brands who tend to flood in with offers May 25th through the first week of June. Influencers are also using their excess of funds to help give back to the LGBTQ+ community. TikTok star, Dylan Mulvaney, who is documenting her transition said she will “donate whatever she makes from the TikTok creator fund and the Instagram Reels Bonus fund to the organization For the Gworls, which provides support to Black trans women.” (AdAge)
