Ralph Lauren collaborated with Morehouse College and Spelman College on capsule collections celebrating Black students. This month, the fashion brand teamed up with the two HBCUs for a clothing line honoring their history and traditions. For the marketing campaign, Ralph Lauren tapped Black creative directors, photographers, cinematographers, and models made up of Morehouse and Spelman students. The collections—inspired by 1920s and 1950s collegiate style, yearbooks, newsletters, archival images, and mottos—highlight the influence that Black college students had in setting style trends. Featured pieces include tweed three-piece suits, boatneck sweaters emblazoned with an “M,” a double-breasted linen blazer with a Spelman crest, and for the first time, the iconic Ralph Lauren Polo will be adorned in a “Spelman-branded scarf.” The line will be made available to Morehouse and Spelman students and faculty for a presale before launching to the public. To coincide with the launch, the Ralph Lauren Corporate Foundation pledged $2 million for student scholarships at Morehouse, Spelman, and 10 other HBCUs through the United Negro College Fund. According to one Ralph Lauren executive, the collection “shows the depth and breadth of Black culture.” (WWD)
