Reddit users are criticizing and debating parenting techniques in a thread that recently went viral. This week, a discussion on “overparenting” went viral on r/AskReddit when one user asked the subreddit’s 35 million members: “What parenting ‘trend’ [do] you strongly disagree with?” The post generated more than 40,000 votes and 22,000 comments. Much of the responses included traditional parenting techniques that “have been debated for decades” to newer philosophies that allow more freedom for kids. One user “based” parents who record and publicize how they punish their kids, in a comment that received more than 37,000 votes. Meanwhile, another popular comment, which received more than 30,000 votes, said that kids need to learn some lessons on their own to thrive as adults. Millennials are clearly questioning some of the parenting standards that have been used by previous generations, and hoping to create their own norms. (Newsweek)
