More women are choosing to not have kids due to financial concerns, a lack of childcare resources, and more.

Jan 06 2022

More women are choosing to not have kids due to financial concerns, a lack of childcare resources, and more. YPulse’s Millennial parenting data found that the number of Millennials who say they want to have kids in the future dropped from last year. With birth rates on the decline, women are opening up about their parenting fears, causing them to think twice about having kids. For starters, money is a primary concern for potential parents. Thinking about the clothes, diapers, food, toys, childcare costs, etc. is weighing on them—not to mention student loan costs some Millennials are still paying off, as well. Additionally, the thought of childcare options (like whether they have nearby family members or if they’ll be able to quit their job or take significant time off work) is also influencing their decision to have kids. Even in a society where the above is possible, the COVID-19 pandemic, state of climate change, and today’s economy are causing Millennials to grapple with whether they want to bring kids into the mix on top of the world’s crises.
