Twitter’s new Communities tool helps users engage with groups based on their niche interests.

Twitter’s new Communities tool helps users engage with groups based on their niche interests. The invite-only Communities mimic Facebook Groups and Reddit, meaning once people join a community, users can tweet directly to other members instead of just their pool of followers. Communities included in Twitter’s first batch of groups include #AstroTwitter, #DogTwitter, #SkincareTwitter, and #SoleFood—like a more defined (and less organic) version of TikTok subcultures. The social media platform invited a handful of users to create the first Communities and anyone can apply to create their own on Twitter’s website. YPulse’s Clicking on Community trend research found that 34% of 13-39-year-olds are part of an online group focused on a shared hobby, and Twitter Communities could offer young users a new way to foster connection on the app. (The Verge)
