Pinterest is tapping into the “creator economy” by testing a new feature that could bring livestream events to the platform. YPulse’s influencer and celebrities research shows that 31% of young consumers had been watching more live streams on social media since the start of the pandemic. Now, Pinterest is trying its hand at live video content with a three-day virtual event that will test live sessions from content creators, celebrities, and influencers. Sessions will cover a variety of topics, and will be hosted by one of 21 creators featuring talks about self-care from Jonathan Van Ness, summer styling tips from Rebecca Minkoff, favorite recipes from food creators GrossyPelosi and Peter Som, and more. Users can join the sessions via a new “Live” tab on Pinterest and interact with the hosts by commenting in the chat. Pinterest is a hub of discovery, and while it’s not clear if live video will survive long-term on the platform, it could offer a new way for users to learn from creators in real time. (TechCrunch)
