The “Millennial Divorce” is the “defining break-up” for this generation of couples. According to the Office for National Statistics, the number of cohabiting couples is growing faster than married couples—with an increase of 25.8% between 2008 and 2018. Meanwhile, the number of opposite-sex couples getting married has fallen to the lowest level in history—decreasing by 45% since 1972. The term “Millennial marriage” has been coined to describe young, unmarried couples who are opting to live together without tying the knot to save money. But after moving in, some couples are disagreeing and coming across an array of challenges while living together leading to them to get a “Millennial divorce”—a breakup not only of just the relationship, but of major assets. YPulse’s Life Plans, Rewritten trend report found that 81% of 13-39-year-olds don’t care what order life milestones were done in past generations, and are doing it their own way. (VICE)
