New data is resurfacing a long-standing debate: is TV truly rotting kids’ brains? Past studies revealed that prolonged TV viewing can anatomically alter a child’s brain, and lead to antisocial behavior, mental health problems, and obesity. Now new studies are suggesting that preexisting personal traits may be to blame and extended TV watching is a just a consequence of those traits. According to the researchers: “[Our findings] suggest that the changes in neurobiological functioning…would have occurred regardless of the actual amount of television watched.” (Scientific American)
