Millennials might make up the majority of the population in this year’s census, but they don’t necessarily define themselves by the “narrow” category options available to them in the survey. To get a better picture of the Millennial experience, NPR asked young listeners to send in selfies listing their own customized identity descriptors via Twitter or Instagram. Hundreds of selfies were submitted, illustrating how many Millennials are uncomfortable being pigeonholed and their eagerness to disprove those self-absorbed, lazy, and technology-obsessed stereotypes. Some millennial created boxes included: “philosophical Taoist,” “history lover,” “musician,” “feminist,” “animal lover,” “Twitter machine expert,” and “believes in being a good person.” (NPR)
