When thinking about “collector’s items,” the first thing that comes to mind might be an expensive painting or a vintage sports trading card. And that’s not untrue, but for Gen Z and Millennials, being a collector can be far more commonplace than that. Everyone knows by now how much young consumers love a “haul” video, and really, that might be the first step in creating a collection today. Whether it’s mini brands, gaming keyboards, or rows of face moisturizers, young shoppers are creating quite the collections of their favorite items. In YPulse’s newest Hobbies and Passions report, we asked young people if they collect anything, and 53% do. And while more may have “collections” of sorts, it’s significant that more than half of all 13-39-year-olds consider themselves a collector in one way or another.
