Data from YPulse’s AI Unpacked trend report shows over half of young Europeans think brands should be using artificial intelligence, so brands started doing just that. Among the different ways brands can make the most of AI in their marketing is by creating faux out-of-home (FOOH) displays, meaning creating a video with GCI, AI, or AR to imagine an ad that looks real to the viewer—but doesn’t have to be made IRL. This type of advertising is also called stunt marketing and surrealist marketing as these bigger-than-life activations are playful by nature and aim at generating lots of activity on social media, while also leaving the viewer confused as to whether the video is real or not. Brands have been very creative with visual tech this year in trying to catch young people’s attention, such as Alexander Wang’s giant bra hanging from the Manhattan bridge or Vestiaire Collectives’ dramatic scene where tons of clothes were falling from the sky in NYC to raise awareness on the topic of fashion wastage.
