Rizz is Back on The Viral List as Word of The Year

“Rizz” is Oxford Dictionary’s word of the year—are they right?  About this time last year, YPulse told you how TikTokers added “the rizz” to the app’s ever-expanding lexicon. Even though YouTuber Kai Cenat appears to have kicked off its use back in 2021, the slang term rapidly became mainstream after making its way to TikTok last October and is now a part of both serious relationship discussions and hilarious memes. But what does it actually mean? All we can say is, Gen Z applies the term to anyone that has a ton of game in the dating scene (think Pete Davidson), and it’s basically an updated version of 2018’s “BDE.”    This week, Oxford Dictionary named “rizz” 2023’s word of the year—and while Gen Z seems to be on board, Millennials appear to disagree, suggesting other contenders like “Swiftie” or “situationship” were more mainstream.
