Despite the fact that they’ve continuously raised their monthly subscription price over the past several years, Netflix remains the top service Gen Z and Millennials use to watch content weekly. And though its content is certainly what makes it their favorite, the lack of ads doesn’t hurt either. In fact, YPulse research shows the majority of young consumers agree that they use streaming services to avoid ads (and more than seven in 10 still say streaming services are worth the money). However, Netflix and many others have begun offering lower priced tiers that include advertisements at the same time they up the price of ad-free subscriptions—which could be a valuable option to young viewers looking to cut back their spending on entertainment. At the same time, Amazon has announced that they’ll be adding “limited advertising” to their content starting in 2024.
