The first ever YouTube Music Awards felt real and “off-the-cuff,” but did not have the shiny production value of traditional awards shows that Millennials are used to and didn’t deliver a “must-see/must-tweet” moment. Hybrid music group Pentatonix won with a cover song for “Response Of The Year” but the actual award show saw less of a response with only 220,000 viewers at its peak.
