Politics matter more than ever on dating apps. The last four years have made an impact in the digital dating world: According to eHarmony from mid-2016 to mid-2017, women who answered the political affiliation question on their site jumped from 24.6% to 68%, and from 16.5% to 47% for men. Almost three million users on OkCupid said they couldn’t date someone with “strong opposing political views” last year—and according to Match’s 2020 Singles in America survey, 76% of singles believe it’s important for partners to share political beliefs—up 25% from 2017. Meanwhile, mentions of “Black Lives Matter” on Tinder “exceeded mentions of the term “hookup” by the end of last year. YPulse’s Finding Love Post-COVID trend report found that 35% of single young people would not date someone whose political views are different from their own. (Mashable)
