High costs could be keeping kids from playing sports. The Aspen Institute found that the percentage of six-to-twelve-year-olds who regularly play sports has dropped from 45% to 38% over the last decade, up until 2018. The high cost of participation could be the cause. Parents with children who regularly play sports estimate they spend an annual average of $692, and the average household income of these families is $90,908—a far cry from the U.S. average of $59,039.
