YouTube is trying to make Shorts more like TV. Just like YPulse predicted back in 2024, micro-binging is reshaping Gen Z’s TV habits—and social media platforms are responding. Case in point: YouTube’s new “Shorts series” feature. The tool lets creators organize their Shorts into a curated collection so viewers can watch them as one continuous story rather than scroll clip to clip—complete with custom thumbnails and episodic playback that makes the whole thing feel more like traditional TV. YouTube’s goal is to make their content even easier to binge watch, as well as compete with the growing microdrama market. (In fact, TikTok launched its own microdrama app, PineDrama, earlier this year.) And as YPulse told you yesterday, social media is increasingly something Gen Z watches together on actual TV screens (in addition to it being their version of TV), which means this new feature could turn Shorts into exactly the kind of content Gen Z would love to sit down and binge as a group.
