Gen Z is more likely than any other gen to impulse shop. According to a new survey by PartnerCentric, 86% of Gen Z and 85% of Millennials have made an impulse purchase this year, compared to 81% of U.S. adult shoppers on average. While it’s only a small margin difference, it speaks to a trend in young people’s shopping behaviors. Even as they feel financial pressures, they’re motivated by instant gratification and an emotional craving for a small reward when life gets stressful. Another 74% of Gen Z say they “deserved a little treat or reward,” compared to 59% of Millennials, 62% of Gen X, and 50% of Baby Boomers. For 54% of Gen Z shoppers, food and beverages make up the top category for impulse purchases, with clothing following closely behind. YPulse data shows that Gen Z finds joy in “treat culture,” especially in the form of everyday snacks and drinks, even if a $12 latte stretches their budget. (USA Today)
