A 13-year-old has become a prediction market whiz.In the fast-growing world of prediction markets, Eli Goldfine, a middle schooler from New York, has come into the spotlight. At just 13-years-old—not technically old enough to place bets—Goldfine has learned the ins and outs by making accounts on Polymarket and Manifold, and interviewing ex-Kalshi employees for his Substack. He even took his obsession with prediction markets to the classroom, where he invented a system for his classmates to bet on who would come first in student government elections. (Though his school wasn’t fond of that venture.) Prediction markets are wildly popular right now, especially among young men—and even minors, though legal teams are working not to promote that demographic. Because of the ease and gamification of any event under the sun, many young people gravitate towards them because it doesn’t feel like traditional gambling—though it has all the same risks.
