Gen Z is “posting zero,” and it’s reshaping social media. As feeds become crowded with ads and AI-generated content, users are posting less frequently, opting for quieter profiles. A Financial Times study of 250K users across 50 countries found social media activity has dropped by up to 10%, with young people leading the decline. It tracks with YPulse data showing 57% of 13-39-year-olds in Western Europe who say “I wish I could escape the algorithms on my social media feeds sometimes.” Instead of logging off entirely, young users are migrating to private group chats and “Close Friends” stories where there’s less exposure and more control. They’re not done with social media, but many are done performing for a public feed. (Pplware)
