Many young people are pulling back their support for Donald Trump—but they’re not loving Democrats, either. According to a CBS News/YouGov poll, there’s been a -27pt drop in approval ratings for the current president among 18-29-year-olds—going from a positive 55% in February to 28% in July. Still, new data from The Pew Research Center shows while they might be dissatisfied with Trump currently, they don’t appear to be turning their favor toward Democrats. Instead, they seem to be frustrated and disengaged with both parties. YPulse data even shows between 2020 and November 2024, the number of 18-24-year-olds identifying as Independents has increased by +9pts. Many young voters don’t remember a time before Trump’s first presidency and the following heated elections. In turn, they’re more skeptical of parties, less ideologically attached, and more likely to react against whoever holds power rather than align with one party identity. (Vox)
