Gen Z is feeling the pressure of weight loss culture. While it’s true that just a few years ago Gen Z and Millennials carved out a new definition of wellness that’s less strict about which lifestyles are heathy and which are not, new data shows that their views could be shifting once again. Young people are now living in an era of #SkinnyTok content, paired with the rising popularity of GLP-1 weight-loss drugs like Ozempic, resulting in a noticeable, ‘90s-rivaling affinity for thinness. According to research gathered by natural food and beverage companies Mattson, Spins, and Moxie Sozo, 55% of Gen Z currently say they are trying to lose weight, and 37% want help from GLP-1 medications. The International Food Information Council also found that Gen Z is the least likely of any gen to have a positive relationship with food, and was the most likely to follow a specific dietary pattern or diet in 2024.
