Is Gen Z ending hookup culture? A Times study found that 62% of Gen Z young adults say they don’t engage in one-night stands, and neither do their friends. And while for Millennials, flings were more common, this younger gen might be looking for something different from their time dating. Many are prioritizing emotional safety and looking for a “slow-burn romance,” (thanks, BookTok) leading to meaningful relationships. It makes sense as the gen has been raised in a time of dating apps, ghosting, and witnessing the fallout of high divorce rates. Now, they’re favoring authenticity and long-term commitment, which could signal a movement away from casual relationships. YPulse’s Dating & Relationships report does show most young people’s ultimate goal is a committed relationship, but many are forgoing relationships completely right now to focus on themselves, not look for a marriage.
