Inspired by the show’s eerie premise—where employees have their work and personal selves completely “severed”—this trend imagines the horror of discovering their “outie” (a.k.a. their real-world self) is kind of the worst. TikTokers are sharing all kinds of funny and maybe even tragic realizations, like finding out their outie is a loser or, even worse, a pick-me. Although the actual show can be confusing, and the memes certainly will be for anyone who doesn’t know the terminology, the reference is a relatable way to poke fun at the versions of themselves they don’t always have control over.
