The overall number of LGBTQ+ Americans is on the rise, driven by young adults.Β According to 2024 Gallup data, 23% of 18-27-year-olds identify as something other than heterosexualβwhich is not only far more than older generations, but even an increase among young adults compared to two years ago. The number has also risen slightly among Millennials, to 14% identifying as LGBTQ+ in 2024 compared to an average of 10% between 2020 and 2022. Among LGBTQ+ Gen Z and Millennials, more than half identify as bisexual now, whereas older generations of LGBTQ+ people are more likely to identify as gay or lesbian. Gen Z women are also more likely to identify as LGBTQ+ than Gen Z men (31% vs 12%), and the majority of that group identify as bisexual. (Gallup)
