Wellness Means Fighting Brainrot to Gen Z

Gen Z’s definition of wellness is changing with their priorities again, now encompassing far more than exercise and even mental health

For previous gens, wellness meant working out. But over the years, that definition has expanded significantly. Back in 2022, YPulse explored in our What is Wellness? trend report how Millennials helped shift wellness conversations away from weight loss and more toward strength and holistic health. Gen Z then expanded that definition by putting mental health on equal footing with physical health. Fast forward nearly four years, and Gen Z’s definition of wellness has evolved into a bigger picture of their identity, becoming a way they track and assess their overall quality of life.   YPulse’s Health and Fitness data shows 78% of 13-24-year-olds agree that “wellness can be anything that makes you feel good.” Today, wellness is a catchall term for living a better life with social connection, cognitive health, and even spiritual connection now considered essential parts of their overall wellbeing.   In YPulse’s Health and Fitness survey, we ask 13-39-year-olds which aspects of wellness they’re actively working on—a question we also asked back in 2022.
