TikTok’s algorithm had a major glitch over the weekend, and Gen Z noticed immediately  Young users woke up on Sunday to FYPs that felt completely off. Instead of their usual hyper-personalized feeds, many were served old videos and posts completely outside their usual interests—from bizarre AI slop to stray sports clips and, for some reason, the same sea lion on repeat. In one TikTok’s caption, a creator says, “Between reliking comments, refollowing people, reposting stuff I already reposted, and my comments not loading…I’m doing my best over here.” Many said their feeds felt unrecognizable, like a default account rather than one with years of personalized curation—just like how young users said TikTok felt last year after the app returned from its temporary U.S. ban. Creators sounded the alarm, too.
