Duolingo’s mascot Duo is “dead” and everyone’s in mourning The internet is in mourning—or at least pretending to be—after the “death” of Duo, Duolingo’s big green menace of a mascot. The brand announced on Tuesday that the beloved, unhinged owl had met its demise, sending social media into a frenzy. With over 7M views on TikTok, the brand wrote “It is with heavy hearts that we inform you that Duo, formally known as The Duolingo Owl, is dead. Authorities are currently investigating his cause of death and we are cooperating fully. Tbh, he probably died waiting for you to do your lesson, but what do we know.” A day later, Duolingo doubled down, posting footage of a supposed hit-and-run showing Duo being taken out by a Tesla Cybertruck, and asking followers to help identify the driver.
