Earlier this year, YPulse’s Tween Study gave an in-depth look at Gen Alpha’s interests, media, and preferences—and how these mini-influencers are already impacting purchases. Understanding them is a must for youth-focused brands, and being clued into their lingo is a good place to start. Of course, it’s important for brands to tread carefully when using slang. Like all things, there’s a time and place, and it doesn’t make sense for all brands to try to use young people’s terminology. But at the very least, understanding their most-used slang words is a window into tween’s culture—and step in the right direction if brands don’t want to sound too cringe.
