We’re starting 2019 with a check-in on young consumers’ spending power, and how what they’re spending on has
shifted in the last year. Although their top monthly spending categories are focused on the practical (food, household supplies, auto maintenance, and clothes), compared to 2017, 18-36-year-olds are spending more on travel, medicine, and personal care/beauty services—most likely due to the rising importance of self-care. Meanwhile, spending on dining out saw a decrease, perhaps showing their rising preference for staying in (and cooking).
