Increased sobriety checkpoints and educational campaigns are being credited for the decrease in overall drunk driving, especially among today’s teenagers: 6.6% of 16-20-year-olds reported driving while drunk in 2014, compared to 16.2% in 2002. The progress is encouraging, and needed. In 2013, 2,163 teens died in car accidents, and “17% of teen drivers involved in fatal crashes were drunk.” The number of 21-25-year-olds who admit driving under the influence has also decreased.
