SiriusXM is slashing its prices for college students and nixing in-car listening, the piece of the subscription they don’t typically use. The Student Premiere Package offers commercial free music and talk channels for $4—less than one third of their typical $12.99 asking price. Despite the steep discount, it’s not a money-losing proposition. Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Prime all already have discounted tiers for the coveted demo, betting that they’ll become income-earning, full price-paying customers once they graduate.
