DC Entertainment announced its new executive team. Veteran creator Jim Lee was named co-publisher of DC Comics alongside former Senior Vice President and Executive Editor of DC Comics, Dan DiDio, while fan-favorite writer Geoff Johns (“Blackest Night,” “Smallville”) was named Chief Creative Officer of DC Entertainment. John Rood was named Executive Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Business Development, and Patrick Caldon was named Executive Vice President of Finance and Administration. (MTV)
Sean Garrett just announced that he’s leaving the communications startup he helped found five years ago and taking a new position as vice president of communications at Twitter. Garrett says he’s been consulting for Twitter for the past few months, via 463 Communications (ReadWriteWeb)
Nick Denton has de facto fired Gawker editor Gabriel Snyder; and announced the purchase of Cityfile. On Friday, Snyder announced Gawker’s record traffic. Remy Stern is now the editor of Gawker. (Stern, a founder of Cityfile, has desired the top Gawker job since at least 2004.) (The Awl)
James Hibberd reports that the solid-performing Last Call With Carson Daly will return from hiatus after the Olympics on March 1, and with a new producer — Stewart Bailey, who spent ten years as the co-executive producer of The Daily Show. (THR)
Polyvore, a leading fashion and social shopping platform, announced the addition of Sukhinder Singh Cassidy as Chief Executive Officer. Ms. Singh Cassidy will join Polyvore on March 1, from Accel Partners where she served as CEO-in-residence. (press release)
Chorion expands its executive team with the appointments of two new members of its Global Brand and Licensing teams. Tamra Knepfer is named EVP/Brand Management & Marketing and Steve Cipolla joins the company as EVP/Global Licensing & Sales. (Cynopsis Kids)
Zynga, the leading social games developer, has opened up a new office in Bangalore, India. According to Zynga, the new “operation will focus on game and large-scale infrastructure development”. This office now adds to Zynga’s San Francisco headquarters, their new Los Angeles location and their Baltimore studio. The plan is to hire 100 new employees in India by the end of 2010. Rebecca Sears has been named editor at Oxford University Press. She had been editor at Art on Paper. (Mediabistro, reg. required)
Johanna Fuentes has joined Showtime Networks as vp corporate public relations. Based in New York, she will handle corporate trade and business media relations for the pay cable network, reporting to Richard Licata, Showtime’s executive vp corporate communications. Fuentes most recently was vp communications at Bravo. (THR)
