Daily news and insight into the Millennial generation for media and marketing professionals

Ypulse Youth Marketing Mashup East: The Millennial Myths Panel

Posted by anastasia on 09-22-2008

Blogging about the younger generation day in and day out for the past 4+ years, I’ve read countless articles and research attempting to define this generation for marketers, human resources professionals and for the rest of us in the media. Whenever you attempt to define an entire generation, you will inevitably end up generalizing, and when it’s older folks defining younger folks, we have a tendency to paint them in a less than flattering light. When I was planning the program for our next Ypulse event in Boston (Nov. 6-7), I wanted to cut through the generalizations and myths and get a better understanding of who this generation really is. Some of the generalizations we plan to address are:

- They are the most entitled generation
- They are obsessed with fame and fortune
- They are colorblind when it comes to issue of race

To do this, I recruited some of the brightest Millennials thinking and writing about this topic today. I also invited my friend, Mike Dover, from nGenera, to moderate — some long time readers might recall that I co-wrote a white paper on just this subject with Mike awhile back. Our panel line-up includes:

Ryan Healy, Co-Founder, Brazen Careerist
Nadira Hira, Writer, Fortune Magazine
Reena Nadler, Program Director, LifeCourse Associates
Saaret Yoseph, Editorial Assistant, The Root
