Ypulse Tween Media Roundup

Posted by anastasia on 07-19-2007

NicktropolisLots happening in the tween space this week. Nickelodeon is investing $100 million in casual gaming. From MediaWeek:

"Across all of MTVN's online sites, gaming is an important original genre and we are committed to delivering fresh content to our audiences in all of our demos," said Cyma Zarghami, president, Nickelodeon Kids and Family Group. "Particularly in the kids' space, with more than 86 percent of kids 8 to 14 gaming online, we see great momentum for online casual gaming."

See Izzy's take on this here. And, just in case you were thinking all this gaming was being developed for boys — here's a reminder that girls love games, too.

Given the success of tween communities like Club Penguin and the phenomenal growth of Barbiegirls.com, Disney is determined not to be left out of the tween social networking/gaming space either and will launch DGamer in 2008.

The New York Times, reg. required, recently wrote about how Bratz, Barbie's sluttier sister with a bad rap among parents, is attempting to rehab its image with the Bratz movie.

Back to Disney, Reuters gives us a peek their plans for marketing "High School Musical 2" as well as a story from last week on how other record labels are following Disney's lead into the lucrative tween market.

Don't forget: The Ypulse Tween Mashup is coming September 28 in NYC. The full site will go live July 23.

  1. Izzy Neis Says:

Ahhh! I totally noticed that about the Bratz commercials. Not to mention– the the Bratz dolls in the doll commercials are a little less slutty– check them out. INTERESTING!

    Things to notice:
    * Neutral colors in their make-up (and a little less "to the brow") on the dolls
    * The clothing on the dolls they use seems a bit more sensible– aka, covered up.
    * All the dolls seemed outrageously different before, and now (when lined up) seem to have a consistent feel.

The new-ish Bratz movie trailer feels more like a combo of My Super Sweet 16 movie & Mean Girls– more than the last round. Plus, they seem a little less sophomoric– to the point where I find it young & disjointed for them to refer to their "Bratz-i-tude" in the dialogue.
    Interesting! Interesting! Interesting!

P.s. Thanks for the shout out, as usual :)
