Ypulse Teen Media Mashups

Posted by anastasia on 09-11-2006

For my new readers, last year I planned a couple of events designed to bring Ypulse readers out to meet each other. The first was in San Francisco and the second was in New York City. This year (2006-2007), I plan to have more of these events but will add a media or marketing roundtable discussion to add some content to the evening. I will also highlight a great local youth media organization from the city where the event is taking place. Because my readership is fairly New York-centric, I will do two events in NYC (three including my book launch in March) this year, one in San Francisco (two including my hometown book launch) and one in Los Angeles.

I am calling them Teen Media Mashups because "mixer" feels like a weird singles event and because that's what Ypulse is — a mashup of different people and ideas in the teen space (marketers, media folks, psychologists, technologists, non-profits, etc.).

So for all my New York-area readers, save the second week in November (I haven't nailed down a night yet, but it will be Mon. - Thurs.) most likely at Mannahatta again for this fall's New York mashup. The media roundtable will be a discussion of "the future of teen magazines" and I'm working on getting Atoosa to show up as well as someone from Teen Vogue or Conde Nast's new Flip site. I would also welcome roundtable speakers from CosmoGirl and J-14. I know I have readers from all of these pubs, so contact me if you want to join the discussion. I also want to include some niche mags like SMASH in the discussion. I'll let you know which youth media organization will be highlighted soon. The roundtable will be informal (no Power Point!). Just a discussion of the issues. I will play Terry Gross (my idol) and just ask questions.

Part of the reason why last year's New York event was so fun was because we had a sponsor. Bolt was amazing and bought drinks and food for everyone. This time around there are Gold and Silver sponsorships available at each event, which will also subsidize food and drink and me getting there and planning the program. There will be a main swag table for anyone who wants to bring it, and two special swag tables for the Gold and Silver sponsors. If you are interested in sponsoring any Ypulse events, get in touch. The rough dates for all four are:

NYC mashup - second week in November
Los Angeles mashup - February
San Francisco book launch - early March
NYC book launch - around March 20
San Francisco mashup - April
NYC mashup - May
