Ypulse Essentials: Tyra's Clique, Elizabeth & James, Dropout Factories

All kinds of creepy (in the spirit of Halloween, my friend Erin from YALSA dug up this list of YA creepy classics. Plus if that doesn't scare you, Tyra Banks is producing a straight to DVD series for WB based on the Clique books)
- Olsen twins launching a new fashion line called Elizabeth & James (not quite inspired by their own BoHo style. Plus I loved this line from a critique of Victoria Secret's Pink line being marketed to tweens: "Pink is the Joe Camel of thongs") (USA Today) (Philadelphia Inquirer)
- More on MTV's digital strategy (AdAge.com, reg. required, interview with Mika Salmi. Plus Trent Reznor says, "Take my music please.") (News.com)
- 'Dropout factories' (must-read AP story on how one in 10 high schools is basically a drop out factory)
- Why did I think teens could always open checking accounts? (is this really a new trend?) (Milwaukee Business Journal)
- 'Manhunt 2' (being hailed as the most violent video game ever [certainly the most violent game on the Nintendo Wii], pitting parents against gamers) (CBS News)
- Seventeen's 'Freshman 15' appears to be successful (EIC Ann Shoket is talking 13 million users in relation to the mag's video series on this panel where she also characterizes MySpace as "a partner who could have been a competitor" Plus Bebo launches its own "reality series" called "The Gap Year," which follows six Bebo users as they travel the globe for six months in 2008) (Fishbowl NY) (Hollywood Reporter)
- VMars lives! (online…) (Entertainment Weekly)
- Meebo wants to 'bring chat back' (expands its IM platform, opens up to developers) (press release)
P.S. Check out this video interview I did at the Inman Real Estate conference [warning: very bad hair day]. Plus if you're planning on attending CES this year, come say hi to me at the Sandbox Summit!

re teen checking: I think I remember when I was in high school (late 80s early 90s) I was only allowed to open a savings account. But I had an ATM card for it. (no debit card). (but aren't teens getting *credit* cards these days?)
