The <a href="http://www.law.com/jsp/article.jsp?id=1202432466455&NJ_Legislation_Would_Decriminalize_Sexting_by_Teens"<New Jersy bill proposed by Pamela Lampitt doesn’t decriminalize sexting.
It would just give prosecutors a choice of forcing some kids into re-education.
The prosecutor could criminally charge the kids instead if he feels like it.
Also, kids offered re-education who refuse to be re-educated by some-idiot-telling-them-how-dangerous-sexting-is, could still be prosecuted.
The bill would accomplish nothing.
Under existing NJ law, a prosecutor could tell a girl that he won’t prosecute her for sending a nude photo is she takes a class.
New Jersey should make it legal for people under 18 to send nude photos of themselves, just as it’s legal for people over 18.
Pamela Lampit’s bill does nothing of the sort.
