Ypulse Essentials: Stardoll Relaunches Piczo, More Teens Want iPhones, 'I Kissed A Vampire'

Posted by anastasia on 10-07-2009

piczoStardoll relaunches Piczo (as a blogging network with an emphasis on fashion/entertainment with a focus on young women ages 14-24. Plus teen site Suddenly Darling also just launched in the popular teen fashionista space. And Piper Jaffray says teen spending on fashion is beginning to recover) (Paid Content UK)

- Speaking of fashionistas… (Mattel is putting lots of marketing power behind its new line of Barbie Fashionistas. And over at Racialicious, two interesting takes on the new line of black Barbies. Plus a class of 12-year-olds schools Toys R Us about advertising to kids) (Toy News Mag) (AdLand)

- Habbo lays off 40 staffers (while yet another virtual world for kids, Vector City Racers, launches, as does new tween world Woozworld.) (Gamasutra)

- Coke Zero on Facebook (with a slightly creepy find your FB doppleganger promotion) (MediaPost, reg. required)

- More teens want iPhones (the percentage has risen since the spring – Piper Jaffray says the $99 iPhone 3G is making an impact. And the new NPD survey on Mac owners [richer, more into gadgets and also PC owners!].) (Apple Insider) (Ars Technica)

- Scary stat (1/3 of teens in Britain think Google shows most relevant and truthful results at top) (eCommerce Journal)

- CTIA-The Wireless Association launches… (a mobile broadband initiative in low-income communities across the country. And new stats show black youth face a growing threat of violence from their peers.) (New American Media)

- Six music marketing bloggers (you should be following. Plus CMJ announces its lineup.) (Gen Y Rock Stars) (Beat Crave)

- 'I Kissed a Vampire' (which The Wrap describes as "If the makers of 'Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog' got together with the 'Twilight' team" launches Oct. 13th on iTunes. While the new zombie web series "Woke Up Dead" starring "Napoleon Dynamite's" Jon Heder debuted on Crackle this week.) (Pop Candy)

Is it disturbing to anyone else that SundenlyDarling is underwritten by a youth ministry organization? http://www.castfam.com/about-us
I wish there were disclosure about that as well. I only found out because I was vaguely put off by SuddenlyDarlin's edict on modesty and went snooping around. I'm not anti-religion, but I would think that parents would want to know who is speaking to their children.

Good catch! I found it mentioned on ClickZ as an item in their execs and accounts section:

Teen fashion site Suddenly Darling launched with online ad industry vets in tow. Sales Director Karen Paull has run ad sales teams for SnapFish.com and LifeScript.com. Senior Business Adviser Andy Jedynak once led WeatherBug's advertising sales group. The new site will offer standard display units, video ads, roadblocks, and integrated campaigns.
