Ypulse Essentials: 'SOS' From Sneakerplay, Teaching With Tech, New YouTube Rules
Posted by meredith on 12-03-2008
Kiwibox Teen Network (goes live today for advertisers. Also another niche social networking site may go the way of the dodo. TechCrunch reported yesterday that Sneakerplay, the site for sneakerheads, was shutting down BUT we've since been told that the company's actually on the market and looking to be sold) (TechCrunch)
- First comes voting, then comes activism (For Obama's young supporters, showing up at the polls was just the beginning. Plus young altruists take matters into their own hands by starting charities. Also a nice profile on our friends at Blastbeat and their pro-social efforts in the classroom. And an upward trend in teens traveling to do good) (The Nation) (The Christian Science Monitor) (The Guardian)
- The rising price of higher education (may make college unaffordable for most Americans. Yikes) (Wall Street Journal, reg. required)
- Amanda Bynes joins Mary Kay (in a campaign against teen dating violence. More on the subject and how parents can approach it with their teens on the Times' parenting blog) (New York Times, reg. required)
- Good teen mobile stats (in this post from MarketingVOX and who texts and how) (MediaPost, reg. required)
- Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force (a new video game from Disney marks the first offline extension of the popular virtual world. Also the Disney channel orders more Miley) (Variety)
- YouTube lays down the law (with a new set of rules restricting sexually suggestive content) (NewTeeVee)
- Pepsi's disturbing new suicide ads (start the countdown for these getting pulled) (AdAge, reg. required)
- Teach with tech (not against it. That was the message delivered to educators at a recent summit held by Microsoft. And a summary of Don Tascott's argument against rote memorization) (Seattle Pi) (ReadWriteWeb)
- Look for Guitar Hero marketing (all over FOX properties…just in time for its pre-Christmas launch) (MediaPost, reg. required)
P.S. Check out the first official Ypulse vlog, care of Youth Advisory Board member Alyx! He shot, starred and edited a great review of "For the Record," the Britney documentary that aired on MTV on Sunday night.

My comment at the YouTube official blog:

You should give us a choice of at least 6 thumbnails instead of only 3.
