Ypulse Essentials: ‘Queen Bees,’ Kidsickness, Facebook Dance Parties
Posted by casey on 07-11-2008We need two volunteers! If you’re local and wanted to attend the Ypulse Mashup but just didn’t have it in your budget, we’re looking for two volunteers to help us out on site Monday and Tuesday. You will be working, but you will also be able to catch most sessions (for FREE). Please email Colleen if you’re interested.
Last call! Online registration for Monday’s Ypulse Mashup will remain open through tomorrow. You can register on site, but it will cost a bit more. It’s also last call for free tickets to the “American Teen” screening Monday night @ 8:15 p.m. at the Sony Metreon as well. This is open to ALL Ypulse readers. Email mashup@ypulse.com today with your name and the number of tickets you’re requesting.
Regular posting will resume Wednesday — after the event. Browse the archives, send us news tips and look for lots of recaps later next week!
Nice girls finish last (The N’s new reality show “Queen Bees” premieres tonight at 9… I wish I had a TV! Plus Miley goes 3D on Starz) (Washington Post, reg. required) (Reuters)
- Older TV viewers (watching young reality stars) (AdAge.com, reg. required)
- New iPhone main driven by young males (“For the four weeks that ended July 5, 35 percent of visitors to the Apple iPhone web site were ages 18-24″) (Media Life Magazine, last item)
- Kidsickness (instead of camp-bound kids feeling homesick, its the parents who are having trouble letting go) (PSFK via Kansas City Star)
- Facebook partying (large-scale private dance parties are drawing crowds through Facebook event invitations) (Seattle Post-Intelligencer)
-Text messaging young adults (while the average 18 to 34 year-old send 13 texts a week, marketing via text still hasn’t caught on) (eMarketer)
- Teens & tech commentary from Fresh Air (inspired by the recent Pew research on teens and writing, telegraph to the typewriter to the text message, language survives) (NPR)
- Tech @ school (textbooks and teaching online finally catching on – the dog can’t eat your homework when everything is done online) (Reuters)
- Increased online activity in all ages (more adults are online, but kids between the ages of 2-11 are consuming more content) (Media Post, reg. required)
- Abuse in teen and tween relationships (69% of teens who have had sex by the age of 14 say they have experienced abuse in a relationship) (CNN)
- Is it the Juno/Jamie Lynn effect? (teen pregnancies are on the rise for the first time in FIFTEEN YEARS! Plus cover up! Melanoma in young women on the rise – thanks Eric!) (CNN) (AOL News)
- If you’re in the D.C. area (check out this Youth Speaks event)
P.S. Bookmark this Idolator feature. Cool way to track up and coming acts on MySpace….

Hey, YPulse!
Just wanted to say THANK YOU, thank you so so much, for hooking it up with the American Teen screening tickets. The film was amazing, and we got to meet the cast, ask them questions, hang out a bit…
Couldn’t fit all my rantings here :] But being with YPulse was kind of a big deal – we got escorted to the front of the line and sat in a SWEET reserved section – so again, YPulse.
THANK YOU. :]
