Ypulse Essentials: New Moon Girls In Beta, Stormstyle Launches, ‘Sorority Fever’ On MySpace
Posted by anastasia on 09-08-2008
NewMoonGirls.com beta is live (I’m on their advisory board and am very proud to see this stalwart ad-free magazine for girls take a giant leap into social media. From their description: “NewMoonGirls.com is the safe, advertising-free online community for girls ages 8-12. Girl writers, filmmakers, music-makers, and artists worldwide create and share content and develop their full potential through self-discovery, creativity, and connection.)
- Stormstyle (launched today – “offers an insider view of the fashion industry and is aimed at a youth market of 15-19 interested in finding out more on different aspects of fashion.” Plus MobileYouth digs up another Power Point on Chinese youth fashion)
- ‘Sorority Fever’ (from the producers of “Prom Queen” now on The WB Online and, of course, MySpace)
- If you missed the VMAs (here’s the press release. I recorded them — was too busy watching “Mad Men,” “True Blood” and “Entourage.” Lots of buzz on Russell Brand’s politics and Britney’s hair extensions, er comeback.)
- The CW still trying to be popular (and not go out of business. But what would we have to buzz about? “House”? “Ugly Betty”? It would leave a gaping hole in the celeb/gossip/media blogosphere) (AdAge.com, reg. required)
- Blah blah blah (Some inside scoop on Ashton Kutcher’s animated celeb oriented web series “Blah Girls”) (NewTeeVee)
- Campus newspapers not immune (to the overall newspaper decline. Plus the student organization Free Culture is holding a conference at UC Berkeley in October) (Inside Higher Ed)
- Michael Moore’s ‘Slacker Uprising’ (will be free to download online — perfect for his target demographic, new voters/college students. And meet Alexander Steed — he’s traveling the country “to meet, interview and report how young people are using the Internet to leverage their social and political power.”)
- Does Gen Y like to job hop? (Yes! According to this research from Experience. And is The Army’s new “learning center” really a kid-friendly recruiting tool?) (AdAge.com, reg. required)
- The sex ed gap (you can teach it, but it doesn’t mean they’ll listen) (USA Today)
- Teen gamers (are using the scientific method.) (Wired)
- Blyk controversy (evidently some users of the free ad-supported mobile service are getting their ads, but not their promised minutes. Blyk says its a phone settings issue….) (Mobile Marketing Today)
P.S. The Ypulse Linked In group is now up to over 360 members. If you work in youth media or marketing join today — if you’re more of a Facebook user, you can join us there, too.

Thanks so much for the mention – So very much appreciated. And it fits so nicely with the announcement of Slacker Uprising, it would seem.
