Ypulse Essentials: MTVMusic.com, Video Your Vote, Gen-We

Posted by anastasia on 10-28-2008

9 days and counting until the Ypulse Youth Marketing Mashup East. We've added new lunch tables moderated by folks from City Year, MIT and myYearbook!

MTVMusic.comMTV returns to its music roots? (with a little inspiration from Hulu) (AdAge.com, reg. required)

- PBS wants you to Video Your Vote (Harris Interactive polled teens and adults on their attitudes toward government and voting. And Obama wins the girls' vote. Plus more on how Obama's campaign successfully has been reaching young voters, including tactics like text messaging) (Youth Media Reporter) (Slate)

- Gen-We (is attempting to build a movement with this video (over 700K views on YouTube) – thanks Bob! And Graham Brown from Mobile Youth shares his global research videos. And YouTube contests are creating new stars) (New York Times, reg. required)

- The New Yorker on evangelical teen pregnancies (thanks Andrea. And Jezebel on how real teen moms haven't been happy with the glamorization of teen pregnancy)

- Save the world (or get practice with this new game. Plus GOOD launches a guide to GOOD businesses.) (Wired)

- Get a tattoo (at the mall? Tats are going mainstream. Teens spending less, buying cheaper brands and bargaining with parents for spending money. And Levis launched a cool customization widget that helped sell out its limited edition jeans) (WSJ) (BrandNoise) (StreetKnowledge)

- Flavorpill (gets bloggy)

- Reuters on how tech is altering our brains (And Wikipedia for schools!)

- I don't advise this (parents bring in drug sniffing dogs to bust non-communicative teens) (Mom Logic)

P.S. If any Ypulse readers are looking for research on teens and cars, we've got a new report for sale on Ypulse Research from Harris Interactive.

Corrections and additions: In yesterday's newsletter, I had a broken link to Jossip, which reported that USA Today wouldn't run the Candies teen pregnancy prevention ad. Also, I ran a link to a contest where teens could win a band performance at their prom and said I had no idea who was behind it — it was "Grand Canyon University, one of the fastest growing private Christian universities in the country."
