Ypulse Essentials: HSM 3 On JibJab, Gaia's Got A Brand New Game, 'Meet The Freshers'
Posted by anastasia on 09-19-2008
Disney teams with JibJab (and offers tweens the opportunity to upload their photos into HSM video post cards. Plus coming soon: Hip Chicas, another new tween girl virtual world property. And Bellaboo, an Aussie fashion/beauty site launched by "green teens") (AdAge.com, reg. required)
- Habbo interview ("Sulake's Jeremy Monroe Talks Targeted Advertising To Teens." And Gaia's got a brand new game) (Gamasutra) (News.com)
- 'Meet the Freshers' (the latest Bebo reality show "starring Tom Thurlow, best known for the hugely popular ‘Hollyoaks on the Streets’ series on Bebo, who will travel to 16 universities in England to discover what 'freshers' are really up to.")
- Gospelr (Twitter for Christians) (Tech Crunch)
- Texting works (especially with urban youth, according to this AdAge.com column, reg. required. Plus what ever happened to the Jena 6?) (Black Voices)
- High school journalism at risk? (interesting piece arguing that there is a decline in high school newspapers and journalism classes – makes a solid case for reversing this trend. I don't think I would be doing what I do today without having worked on my high school paper. Plus school desks of the future?) (WireTap)
- The new 'hot' field of study for college students (public health) (Washington Post, reg. required)
- YA authors for Obama (I'm guessing Meghan McCain won't be joining!)
- I'm a PC (I really like this new ad from Microsoft. Being a PC user!)
Updates: We reported in Essentials that video site Heavy.com was facing "heavy times" – the company's founder says "not so." Also, earlier in the week, we linked to a New York Times story about the State Department's ugc competition on YouTube. TakingITGlobal's Natalie Rodic emailed to say, "the article mentioned nearly all the partners except the youth org's involved: TakingITGlobal and International Youth Foundation.")

I was asked to be in this new Microsoft commercial. I guess I was supposed to be the guy that says "I'm a PC and I blog for Obama". Of course, I'm an avid Mac user, so that wasn't going to work out. In fact, it was great seeing Macs outnumber PCs at Netroots Nation and the Big Tent this year. And really, Microsoft's attempt to make PCs hip and cool is pretty lame. That ship sailed a long time ago.
