Ypulse Essentials: 'Friday Night Lights' Refund, Webkinomics, Birth Of A Dance

Comic FoundryFanboy fashion? (yep, this isn't your typical teen magazine…it's for comic book fans!) (Pop Candy)

- VMars is our 'Hero' (VMars may be canceled but Kristen Bell will briefly join the cast of one of my other favorite shows, "Heroes." Oh and KFed will guest star on one of my non-favorite shows "One Tree Hill." Plus an offer you can't refuse: Buy the "Friday Night Lights" DVDs — if you don't love this show [and I promise you will], the studio will send your money back!) (L.A. Times, reg. required) (MSNBC)

- Next gen philanthropy (or really Net Gen philanthropy - thanks Bob!) (WSJ)

- Webkinomics (the accessories industry popping up around Webkinz) (AdAge.com, reg. required)

- MTV gets 'Real' (kills Urge and joins up with Real Networks to compete with iTunes. I'm not optimistic about this at all…and personally I hate "Real" and refuse to download it because you get all this other stuff that sort of feels spyware-ish. Plus: BusinessWeek asks if MTV is scared of internet music?) (WSJ)

- The Facebook time suck (first item, and next item on how banner ads don't work that well on socnets. Also, check out the comments in the Wal-Mart Facebook group…Yikes!) (Media Life Magazine) (GenDigital)

- How a dance was born (fascinating post and videos that illustrate the birth and spread of Soulja Boy) (Next Great Thing)

- Mumblecore (film genre showing portrayals of the mundane in post collegiate life) (New York Times, reg. required)

- Pink (new research says women prefer it — seems like they've been socialized to prefer it to me) (Atlanta Journal Constitution)

- Cyber-ethics 101 (Schools may be mandated to teach internet safety — thanks Derek! Update: See my longer post on this over at Totally Wired) (IT News)

  1. Eric Jaffa Says:

Teaching "internet safety" sounds like a good thing.

But with plans like "Cyber Ethics Lessons which teach that hacking into someone's computer and taking information is just as wrong as breaking into someone else's home…"

It seems that the lessons will actually be a heavy-handed pile of garbage.
